Instructed patient about the collection devices which help when treatments to manage incontinence fail. There are many types: liners, drips collectors, condoms, pads, guards, undergarments, briefs and bed pads. Devices should be comfortable and discreet, and keep skin, clothes and furniture dry. Overpadding damages skin and reduces leakage awareness.
Instructed patient to replace diapers in order to avoid skin breakdown.
Instructed patient to avoid contact with pets, specially dogs and cats.
Instructed patient and/or SO to check cough evolution and notify any significant change.
Instructed patient about the importance of eating foods rich in calcium, protein and fiber to manage hypertension.
Instructed SO to change patient's position slowly when transferring from sitting or lying positions to standing positions. This will avoid dizziness and falls due to a sudden decrease of blood pressure.
Instructed patient about hypotensive medications and how they should be taken exactly as prescribed.
Instructed patient about diuretics and how they should be taken in the morning to prevent nocturia.
Instructed patient to take blood pressure at the same time everyday and also report elevated S/P levels.
Instructed patient on how to recognize S/S of hypotension, such as, dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, weakness, confusion, etc.
