Psychological changes like personality changes, inability to reason, inappropriate behavior, paranoia, agitation, hallucinations. Memantine (Namenda) works by regulating the activity of glutamate. SN instructed in possible adverse reactions to Lasix, including dehydration, orthostatic hypotension, loss of potassium and other electrolytes, weakness, and fatigue. Lasix is used to reduce extra fluid in the body (edema) caused by conditions such as heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease. This can lessen symptoms such as shortness of breath and swelling in your arms, legs, and abdomen. This drug is also used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Lasix is a "water pill" (diuretic) that causes you to make more urine. This helps your body get rid of extra water and salt.
SN instructed that a healthy diet is a major factor in reducing your risk of heart disease. A healthy diet and lifestyle can reduce your risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and stroke. Most fruits and vegetables are part of a heart-healthy diet. They are good sources of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Most are low in fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol. Eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Choose whole grain foods (such as bread, cereal, crackers, and pasta) for at least half of your daily grain intake. Grain products provide fiber, vitamins, minerals, and complex carbohydrates. Eating too many grains, especially refined grain foods (such as white bread, pasta, and baked goods) can cause weight gain. Avoid high-fat baked goods such as butter rolls, cheese crackers, and croissants and cream sauces for pasta. Lean proteins, poultry, seafood, dried peas, lentils, nuts, and eggs are good sources of protein, B vitamins, iron, and other vitamins and minerals. Avoid foods with a lot of saturated fats including animal products such as butter, cheese, whole milk, ice cream, sour cream, lard, and fatty meats such as bacon.
SN instructed that the Metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. It is used in patients with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Metformin works by helping to restore your body's proper response to the insulin you naturally produce. It also decreases the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach/intestines absorb.
SN instructed patient / caregiver about Ipratropium Bromide/Albuterol(Duoneb); get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using albuterol and ipratropium and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as: wheezing, choking, or other breathing problems, chest pain, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest, dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, anxiety, uneven heart beat), swelling of your ankles or feet, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights, painful or difficult urination. Other common side effects may include: mild headache, or cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, cough, or sore throat.
SN instructed patient that the no concentrated sweets (NCS) diet is designed to limit the total sugar in the diet to achieve and maintain near normal blood sugar levels. Foods that should be avoided includes sugar, regular syrup, molasses, and regular jam and jelly, candy, pie, cake, cookies, doughnuts, etc.
SN instructed patient that Beclometasone dipropionate is a potent glucocorticoid steroid. In the form of an inhaler ( Clenil, Qvar ), a wide number of brands of which are available, it is used for the prophylaxis of asthma. As a nasal spray, it is used for the treatment of rhinitis (hay fever and sinusitis). In some instances, it is used by oral pathologists in the treatment of unusually severe aphthous ulcers. Possible side effect / adverse reaction: occasionally, it may cause a cough upon inhalation. Deposition on the tongue and throat may promote oral candidiasis, which appears as a white coating, possibly with irritation. This may usually be prevented by rinsing the mouth with water after using the inhaler. Other side effect may rarely include: a smell similar to burning plastic, unpleasant taste, hoarseness or nasal congestion, pain or headache, and visual changes. Allergic reactions may occur, but rarely. Nasal corticosteroids may be associated with central serous retinopathy
SN instructed patient about Flonase ( Fluticasone). It is used to treat asthma, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, various skin disorders and Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. If taken correctly, the nasal spray and oral inhaler formulation have less corticosteroid side effects than the tablet formulation because they limit systemic absorption. However, if the spray or inhaler is used at higher than recommended doses or with other corticosteroids, serious side effects can occur. These systemic corticosteroid side effect include weakened immune system, increased risk of systemic infections, osteoporosis, and elevated pressure in the eyes. Nasal spray common side effects may include nasal irritation, HA, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nosebleed, and cough. Rare side effects include painful white patches in nose or throat, sore throat, bruising , vision problems, swelling of face or neck, and difficulty breathing or swallowing.
SN instructed patient that Meclizine is an antihistamine that is used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It may also be used to reduce dizziness and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by inner ear problems. SN instructed that drowsiness, dry mouth, and tiredness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
SN instructed about Pantoprazole or Protonix , it is used for short-term treatment of erosion and ulceration of the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease. Pantoprazole may also be used in combination with antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by helicobacter pylori. Possible side effect / adverse reaction may include, Infection: Stomach acid plays a role in killing ingested bacteria. Use of pantoprazole may increase the chance of developing infections such as pneumonia, particularly in hospitalized patients. Gastrointestinal: abdominal pain , diarrhea , flatulence. Neurologic: headache. Serious side effect : Gastrointestinal: atrophic gastritis, clostridium difficile diarrhea; Hematologic: thrombocytopenia; Immunologic: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis; Musculoskeletal: Muscle disorders, bone fracture and infection, clostridium difficile infection, osteoporosis-related hip fracture, rhabdomyolysis; Renal: interstitial nephritis (rare), Nutrition: may reduce the absorption of important nutrients, vitamins and minerals, as well as medications.
