Procedures
Instructed patient about your incisions, check daily. Notify your doctor if you notice any of the following: Increased tenderness of the incision line, Increased redness or swelling around the edges of the incision line, Any drainage from the incision line, A persistent fever, contact the doctor.
Instructed patient / caregiver inspect the site daily for any irregularities, such as swelling, redness, leakage or pain. If any irregularities or complications are noted, report them to a healthcare professional immediately.
Instructed patient / caregiver if the catheter breaks, whether bleeding does or does not occur, do not panic. Using sterile gauze, apply sufficient pressure at the site so it is tightly and well covered and immediately report this to the physician. Maintain pressure on the site at all times.
Instructed patient caregiver seek professional help immediately if any discharge, redness, swelling or pain around the catheter insertion site is noticed.
Instructed patient / caregiver strenuous work, with hand cannulated, lifting objects greater than ten pounds, or repetitive motion should all be avoided.

Instructed patient catheters that present resistance to flushing and aspiration may be partially or completely occluded. Do not flush against resistance. If the lumen will neither flush nor aspirate and it has been determined that the catheter is occluded with blood, a declotting procedure per nurse may be appropriate.
Instructed patient if you have Fever, chills, tenderness, redness, or pus at the catheter site, Swollen arm, Check your child’s temperature and call the doctor right away.
Instructed patient when skin redness where the tape or dressing was the nurse may need to change the dressing size or the type of tape or dressing used. Call home care nurse.
