Lovastatin Teaching 2215

Lovastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Lovastatin is used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors. Lovastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. This condition may be more likely to occur in older adults and in people who have kidney disease or poorly controlled hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, it may interact with lovastatin and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking lovastatin. Avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Lovastatin will not be as effective in lowering your cholesterol if you do not follow a cholesterol-lowering diet plan. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage. Common side effects may include: constipation, stomach pain; muscle cramps; or headache. You can lower your Cholesterol by avoiding alcohol and avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, You can add soluble fiber to your diet by eating oats and fruits, beans, lentils, and vegetables. Exercise on most days of the week and increase your physical activity.

SN instructed patient Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol, and to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors. Take once daily with or with out food in the evening at the same time. Avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Atorvastatin will not be as effective in lowering your cholesterol if you do not follow a cholesterol-lowering diet plan. Minimize drinking alcohol. It can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with atorvastatin and lead to potentially dangerous effects. Avoid drinking more than 1 liter per day of grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

In addition, warned of possible S/E such as headache, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, depression, abnormal dreams, somnolence, seizures, tremor, irritability, paresthesia, aggression, vertigo, ataxia, restlessness, abnormal crying, nervousness, aphasia, syncope, pain, chest pain, hypertension, vasodilation, atrial fibrillation, hot flashes, hypotension, cataract, blurred vision, eye irritation, sore throat, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, fecal incontinence, GI bleeding, bloating, epigastric pain, frequent urination, ecchymosis, weight loss, dehydration, muscle cramps, arthritis, toothache, bone fracture, dyspnea, bronchitis, pruritus, urticaria, diaphoresis, influenza, and increased libido. The drug does not alter the underlying degenerative disease but can temporarily stabilize or relieve symptoms. Effective therapy depends on taking drug at regular intervals. Instructed to take drug in the evening, just before bedtime. Immediately report significant adverse effects or changes in overall health status. Inform health care team that patient is taking drug before he receives anesthesia. Avoid OTC cold or sleep remedies because of the potential for increased anticholinergic effects.

Neosporin Teaching 1947

SN instructed patient about Triple antibiotic ointment Neosporin, it is an antibiotic product marketed for the prevention of infections and speeding the healing of wounds. Neosporin is recommended for burns, scratches, and minor cuts. It is most effective when affected area is cleaned before application of ointment. It is for external use only and should not go near mucus membranes such as the eyes or mouth. It is not recommended for children under the age of two. There are no known side effects when using neosporin, however users should immediately seek medical attention when experiencing hives, rashes, or itching. Any skin irritations such as pain, burning, or cracked skin that were not present prior to use of ointment must receive immediate care.

SN instructed patient that Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug that is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant drug. It is used to treat certain inflammatory diseases and for many different indications including: asthma, COPD, CIDP, rheumatic disorders, allergic disorders, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, adrenocortical insufficiency, hypercalcemia due to cancer, thyroiditis, laryngitis, severe tuberculosis, urticaria ( hives ), lipid pneumonitis. Possible side effect may include, Increased blood sugar for diabetics, Difficulty controlling emotion, Difficulty in maintaining train of thought, Weight gain, Immunosuppression, Facial swelling, Severe, Depression, mania, psychosis, or other psychiatric symptoms, Unusual fatigue or weakness, Mental confusion / indecisiveness, Memory and attention dysfunction (Steroid dementia syndrome), Blurred vision. Take prednisone as ordered.

It is used to treat some types of cancer, but has significant adverse effects. It is used for many different indications including: Pericarditis, multiple sclerosis, nephrotic syndrome, to relieve the effects of shingles, lupus, myasthenia gravis, poison oak exposure, meniere's disease and as part of a drug regimen to prevent rejection after organ transplant. Possible side effect may include: Abdominal pain, peptic ulcer, painful hips or shoulders, steroid-induced osteoporosis, stretch marks, osteonecrosis - same as avascular necrosis, insomnia, severe joint pain, cataracts or glaucoma, anxiety, black stool, stomach pain or bloating, severe swelling among others. Take prednisone as ordered.

Venelex ointment Teaching 2190

Sn instructed patient that venelex ointment contains balsam peru 87.0mg and castor oil usp 788.0mg in an ointment base of glyceryl monostearate and trypsin. It promotes debridement of eschar and other necrotic tissue. Balsam peru is a effective capillary bed stimulant used to increase circulation in the wound site area. Also, balsam peru has a mildly bactericidal action. Castor oil improves epithelialization by reducing premature epithelial desiccation and cornification. Also, it can act as a protective covering and aids in the reduction of pain. Venelex ointment is used to promote wound healing and the treatment of decubitus ulcers, varicose ulcers and dehiscent wounds. Venelex™ ointment is easy to apply and quickly reduces odors frequently accompanying a decubitus ulcer. The wound may be left open or appropriate dressing applied. Please note that wounds generally heal poorly in the presence of hemoglobin or zinc deficiency. Venelex™ ointment can relieve pain and promote healing. Venelex ointment is for external use only. Do not apply to fresh arterial clots. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep this and all other medications out of reach of children. Keep tightly closed. Use only as directed by a physician. When applied to a sensitive area, a temporary stinging may occur. Apply a thin film of venelex™ ointment topically a minimum of twice daily or as often as necessary. Wound may be left unbandaged or appropriate dressing can be applied. To remove, wash gently with an appropriate wound cleanser.

Instructed to notify prescriber if unusual or bothersome side effects occur or medication is not effective.

SN instructed patient on Humalog 75-25, stated that it is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with diabetes. This product is a combination of two man - made insulins: intermediate - acting insulin lispro protamine and rapid - acting insulin lispro. This combination starts working faster and lasts for a longer time than regular insulin. Insulin is a natural substance that allows the body to properly use sugar from the diet. It replaces the insulin that your body no longer produces, thereby lowering your blood sugar. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. SN also instructed that pain, redness, swelling or itching at the injection site may occur. These effects usually go away after a few days or weeks. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

You should know the symptoms of low and high blood sugar and what to do if you have these symptoms. Empagliflozin may cause side effects like urinating a lot, including at night, increased thirst.
