Nephrostomy
Patient was explained that having a nephrostomy tube in for a long time increases the risk of getting an infection. Nephrostomy tube care focuses on preventing infection. Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment and safety. Be sure to make and go to all appointments, and call your doctor or nurse call line if you are having problems. It's also a good idea to know your test results and keep a list of the medicines you take.. understanding was verbalized
Instructed patient always wash your hands before and after changing the bag from the nephrostomy tube. If another person is assisting with changing your bag they must wear disposable gloves and protective eyewear. Ensure that tube is kept straight and not bent to allow proper flow of urine
Instructed patient ensure that tube is kept straight and not bent to allow proper flow of urine. Also patient waterproof the dressing before shower and to change the urine drainage bag every 7 days.
Instructed patient you may need to detach the drainage bag from the nephrostomy tube to clean it. If so, attach a new drainage bag tightly to the nephrostomy tube. Instructed patient change bandages, skin barriers, and attachment devices as directed. This helps to prevent infection. Throw away or clean your drainage bag as directed by your caregiver.
Instructed patient when should you contact your caregiver: you have little or no urine draining from the nephrostomy tube, you have nausea and are vomiting, the black mark on your tube has moved or is longer than when it was put in ,you have questions or concerns about your condition or care.
